Can inversion therapy (hanging upside down) increase your height by stretching the vertebrae in your spine?

It’s not the vertebrae that stretch. It’s the discs. You can check out this site.

Ankle sprain with a dance recital in a month?

I was at my dance class and we were preparing for our recital in a month. I had to do a jump with a specific preparation. Unfortunately, I didn’t prepare so well and I landed on my ankle and got a Grade 1 Inversion ankle sprain. Luckily, it’s not too severe and I tried to go up on releve’ and I could with minimal pain. If any dancers or sports players have had a similar injury what did you do to treat it faster and how long did it take (in other words, how long until I can dance on it again?) Thanks for everyone’s help! =0 )

First: RICE Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation
RICE is a good thing for strains and sprains. It is the best method I know of to get you up and dancing again. Never ice for more than twenty minutes. You want to be very careful while going to class to avoid aggravating the condition.
Second: If it hurts, Don’t DO IT!
As a dancer you should already know the difference between good and bad pain. Be wary.
Third: Get someone knowledgeable in sport medicine to give you a good ankle wrap or a brace. This will help prevent further injury and will give you the support you need to heal.
Fourth: Don’t be stressed.
You should be healed well enough by your performance time, if you don’t hurt your ankle more. If by some disaster you do though warn your class that they may have to change the choreography to accommodate you or exclude you.

~Break a leg (In the least literal sense possible.)

Inversion tables, gravity boots, and other mechanical devices are used by thousands of people who suffer from back pain as an alternative to drugs and surgery. Recent studies back up what these people are finding with medical evidence. In 2008, a study from Newcastle University in England found that patients who regularly used an inversion table reduced the need for back surgery in more than 70% of back pain patients.

To understand how inversion therapy helps, you need an understanding of your spinal discs. These discs are really shock absorbers that cushion your back and separate vertebrae while allowing for flexibility. When a disc is damaged, compressed, or improperly positioned the vertebrae may put more pressure on nerve roots within the spine. Deterioration and compression of the discs is natural due to the constant pull of gravity on you spine. If you are a bit on the heavy side, then the process may be accelerated. Because gravity is constant, your spine never gets a rest.

Inversion therapy provides opposite pressure from gravity, relieving your discs and allowing them to recover from the constant pressure of gravity. Because inversion allows your discs to separate, pressure on nerves is decreased, discs are allowed to rehydrate,

When your body is inverted, your spine is relieved from pain-causing pressure. In fact, this would be the only time the pressure is relieved. Even laying down maintains pressure on your spine (approximately 25 % pressure when laying down). Inversion reduces 100% of pressure on your discs.

You may decide to try inversion therapy, and there are several different methods to do so. There are devices such as inversion tables, gravity boots, and slings on the market. Most people who are serious about getting the most out of inversion therapy typically invest in an inversion table. Unlike other methods, an inversion table allows for multiple angles which let you get your body used to inversion (especially important for your inner ear). If you are leery of full inversion, studies show that the maximum benefit can be achieved at 60 degrees.

While inversion is extremely safe, there are certain medical conditions that may restrict your use of an inversion table. Most retailers and manufacturers can advise you one when you should consult with your doctor prior to inverting. Because you are in a position where a product defect could cause serious injury, the brand of inversion table is extremely important. When you are hanging fully inverted, basically hanging by your feet, you want an inversion table your can trust. With safety being the number one concern, slings that are available for inversion that lack a mechanical foot restraint are not advised.

There is a wide variation in quality between brands of inversion tables. Many are produced by contract manufacturers in low cost countries that are purchased by importers focused on minimum cost. Others do not have well thought out designs or do not undergo testing to any outside recognized standards. A brand you can trust, Teeter Hangups inversion tables have been manufactured for years and are tested to UL standards. Most consumers would not purchase a toaster without the UL mark, this should be a minimum standard for a product such as an inversion table that is expected to support your weight.

Inversion therapy is viewed by many who have tried it as a life-changing treatment. By reducing the pressure on the spine caused by gravity, regular inversion has been proven by medical studies and thousands of users to have significant health affects, especially concerning relief from back pain.

How long are you usually out with an Inversion sprained ankle?

Ok, so heres how I got hurt. I was playing basketball about 2 weeks ago, i went up to block a shot, and came down on someones ankle.
Pain was imminent, I could barely walk, I had to hop on one leg. When I got home I went to dr, they took Xrays and they were negative.
A few days after the swelling was even worse and had significant bruising on my foot, toes, and outer ankle. My ankle is still a little bit bruised and swelled.
My ankle only hurts a bit, but I am scared to get back into sports, considering the last two times I rushed back into sports I got another injury.
Does anyone know how long this type of injury lasts, and when I will be able to play again?

Thanks

It depends on wether there is ligament damage or not, if it is purely muscular you can start with gentle exercise to build up the muscle strength again. Make sure you ice and heat as needed. If there is ligament damage, you will need to be more careful, ice for the next 24 hours at 20 mins on and 20 mins off.
Go and see your massage therapist who will aid in getting you back on the court sooner rather than later. Look after this injury properly and you will glad you did. To give a bit of time frame, for muscular damage, 3-4 weeks depending on the severity and rehab and for ligament damage 8-12 weeks. The reason being is that ligament has a relatively poor blood supply and takes much longer to heal, although ligaments will never go back to the pre stretch length, they are not elastic, so careful management is crucial.
Hope this helps

Can anyone tell me about their experience using an inversion table?

I have a bulging herniated disk and have heard that an inversion table works. Tell me what you know about this.

I would not trade mine for a million dollars! I was very skeptical and did not want to waist the money. I looked for months for one to rent or borrow and couldn’t find one. When I finally started using one I wished I had invested in it months before.

Prior to inversion therapy I was having steroids injected into my spine every few months as well as popping pain killers and muscle relaxants like pez but within a few weeks of getting my inversion table was able to do away with everything but the table.

I now hang in the morning for about ten minutes and in the evening for ten minutes. I only occasionally need pain meds. I have four herniated discs, one compression and a protrusion. I was told the way it works is it allows gravity to work for you. During the day gravity forces pull down on your spine and causes pressure on your herniated disc. By hanging upside down on your table the process is reversed and gravity pulls your spine allowing more space between your discs. You don’t have to hang completely upside down for this to work. I actually hang at about forty-five degrees.

I found my inversion table at Sam’s Club for less than two hundred dollars which has more than payed for itself in the medication I have saved alone. The only bad thing is my children have taken to calling me bat girl.

Inversion tables and Kyphosis?

I am a 31 year old male that just started working out again, cardio and weight training. One part of my body I always thought was permanent was my kyphosis (mild-moderate humping in upper back) Then I read about rolfing a few years ago and how it has helped some people actually straighten the spine. There are no rolfers within 250 miles of me, and from what I understand it is a 10 session deal. I think I also read where rolfing was to counteract the forces of gravity. Then I saw an ad for Teeters hang ups last week, and I am VERY curious to try this out. Has anyone had any success with better posture/reducing “hump back” with this device?? I’ve heard where people have actually grown an inch sometimes, and I would have to believe that would be a result of a straighter back.
I think I am going to get one regardless, but I’m trying to keep my expectations based in reality on what I can expect from it.

I had most of my spine fused when I was 17 due to kyphosis. If your spine is calcified, there is nothing short of surgery that can be done. If, instead, you have postural roundback with no spinal calcification (natural fusion) bracing may help. If you have an ortho that you see for your spine, consult them. They can let you know about these and other options. I can tell you that fusion with instrumentation really impairs your life, and is very painful. Good thing it is considered a last ditch measure.

if a person stops using marajuana for more than 45 days, can the urine test come back positive?

how can drug test results show positive samples if you have not smoked drugs for more than 2 months. could it come from a massage or a therapy table that stimulates the muscles or flair up bad chemicals in the muscles. please comment.

Depends on your body. Marijuana stays in there for quite a long time, and marijuana tends to stick to fat for even longer.
