Choosing the Right Bodybuilding Nutrition Program
Nutrition is a cornerstone to bodybuilding success. Without the proper diet, your body simply won't have the fuel it needs to perform the way you want it to. If you're new to the world of bodybuilding, here are some basic tips to help you devise the right bodybuilding nutrition program for you.
One important part of a successful bodybuilding diet is proper spacing of meals. It's ideal to eat numerous small meals throughout the day rather than three large ones. This allows your metabolism to function at an optimum level and helps you burn fat and build muscle, rather than the other way around! Ideally, it's a good idea to eat between four and eight small meals daily spaced about two hours or so apart.
A balanced diet is also essential. You don't want to focus on just one food group or nutrient and neglect others. The best idea is to plan meals that offer you equal amounts of carbs and protein, as well as a small amount of healthy fat. You'll want to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grain, lean meat, and healthy fat. Examples of healthy fats include fish oil, flaxseed oil, and olive oil.
While on the subject of what to eat, let's take a look at carbs and protein. Carbs help supply your body with energy, while protein is essential to muscle development. It's important to get the right kind of carbs and proteins, however. Carbs should come from healthy whole grains, while proteins should come from lean meat such as beef, chicken and fish. Eggs and nuts can also be excellent protein sources.
One technique that can boost your results is caloric cycling. This is when you switch between high calorie intake and low calorie intake. For example, you may eat a low calorie diet for two weeks, then switch to a high calorie diet for two weeks. What caloric cycling does is prevents the metabolism from getting stuck at a certain level.
Staying hydrated is absolutely vital to your success in bodybuilding, as well as your health. You should drink at least eight glasses of water daily, more depending on your activity level. Water helps remove toxins from the body and controls the appetite. Sports drinks like Gatorade are recommended during times of vigorous activity to replenish the body's electrolytes.
